Feel Safer With Outdoor Security Cameras

These days we are confronted by more and more stories of crime and sometimes it can feel as if there is never going to be a time when one can be safe anymore. But this is not the case, there are tools that can be used to make one feel safer and outdoor security cameras are a perfect way in which to achieve this.

Outdoor security cameras should be just one element of an overall security strategy and this type of thinking can be applied to one's house or one's business. There are some key factors that have to be present in a good security strategy, to make sure that it is as effective as possible.

Before embarking on a security strategy, it makes sense to consult with seasoned security professionals. If possible choose a local service provider who is aware of the particular circumstances of your neighborhood. There are many times when having local knowledge can be a real advantage over the criminals. Things such as understanding the community and having expert knowledge on the geographical lay out of the area are very important.

If consultation with local security professionals is not possible there are many online security companies that can assist you in determining just the type of equipment that you will require. There are three elements to a good security program though and these include Monitoring, Deterrence and Capture.

Monitoring literally refers to the act of keeping an eye on the area you want to protect and this is where outdoor security cameras are the most necessary. Given that they are out of the way, those being recorded will act naturally and this could help to pick up strange behavior that might lead to a crime. Whether you have live monitoring or not recorded video evidence is vital to apprehending those responsible. A good system will have video recorded onto digital video recorders or some other type of recording device.

Deterrence is perhaps the most important part of the program as these measures would aim to prevent the crime from even taking place. This component would consist of elements such as high fences, visible security cameras, notices stating the premises are under protection and perhaps posted security guards in more extreme situations.

Capture is the least desirable part of the program as this means that the crime has indeed taken place. You want to ensure that those responsible for the criminal act pay for what they have done. Capture can be ensured by having direct communications with an armed response company, the police or other authorities. This ensures that when the alarm is raised, there is a quick reaction and the criminals can be apprehended.

These elements make up what most would consider to be a very good security strategy. Outdoor security cameras are a very important element of this strategy and even more so if one wants to prevent crimes from taking place. The only concern with these devices is the possible implications of entering someone's privacy, but if it is one's own home or business then this won't apply.

Bullet Cameras: The Number One Camera In The Industry

Easy to conceal and infrared technology are the two characteristics that makes the bullet camera number one in the security industry. The camera can be a standard size camera or small enough fit into a pen. You can watch anyone without their knowledge. However you should know what the laws are regarding video surveillance before you even turn a camera on.

If you own a business you may want to know what your employees are doing when you cannot be there with them. Or if you have a nanny watching over your children, you might want to know if the nanny is treating your children the way they deserve to be. Bullet cameras can be built into clocks and desktop air purifier. Or you can buy a camera and hide it among every day items.

Image quality is the most important feature that you need to be concerned with. There are cameras that offer black and white images or they can offer color images. If you are willing to pay for a higher end camera then you can find bullet cameras with 550 lines of resolution. If video monitoring is extremely important to your security needs then the lower end cameras will not fulfill your needs but work well in conjunction with other security devices.

Wired and wireless cameras are both available. Wired cameras do not need an explanation. The wireless camera can transmit signals to a VCR, DVR or DVD player, if you want to keep record of what your camera records. It can also transmit signals to a PC with video inputs if you want real time surveillance on your computer. The cameras can transmit a signal up to 300ft. when outdoors and 100ft. or slightly less when indoors. The signal will degrade when traveling through structural materials. Longer distances can be achieved by using a separate transmitter and receiver.

The feature that attracts a lot of people is the infrared technology. The camera can see in the dark, even when you cannot. Most security breaches occur at night or over the weekends so an infrared camera may be just the thing to solve any security issues.

Private employers are using bullet cameras to monitor what there nanny does when they are not around. You can have the video feed transmit to your home computer and then send it to your PC at the office to get real time surveillance. Businesses are using them to not only watch customers but their employees as well. Especially if there is cash involved.

Need to monitor the outer perimeter of a building or property? These bullet cameras can withstand bad weather and rain. Some cameras are built well enough to go down 100 feet below the water's surface and these cameras are extremely popular in the marine biology field.

These cameras are often attached to a helmet or personal vehicles of extreme sport athletes to get that first person view. Now most of us know what it looks like and a little of how it might feel to jump from an airplane or bungee jump. From the world of extreme entertainment to top level security needs, bullet cameras are significant tools.

Puppy Watching from Home Security Cameras

A dog is a man’s best friend. They are loyal, they are your walking buddy, playful, and protective. A dog loving couple was excited to move into their new home with a big yard for their two new English setter puppies. The couple was curious about the puppy adventures their dogs would get into while they were away at work. They were so curious that the installed a home security camera so they could watch the English setter puppies. They would watch the puppies from their computers at work and see what they were up to during the day. However, one day while watching the puppies from work, they were viewing their home being broken into by two burglars.

The home security camera captured the entire break in. The home owner acted quickly and called police to notify them of the break in, and police responded within minutes of the call. He continued to watch the burglars break into his home and steal from him and his wife. One man broke the front window and climbed into the home where he proceeded to unlock the front door for his accomplice. One of the dogs was barking at the thieves while the other dog appeared to be hiding somewhere. The two thieves stole a lot of electrical equipment, and luckily for the home owners, they didn’t see the security camera. By the time the police had arrived at the couple’s home, the thieves had already fled from the crime scene. The police were unable to catch the thieves during the break in but are confident that the men will be caught and charged with theft in the near future. The home security camera recorded clear images of the thieves, their actions, and what they stole from the home. The images are very clear of their faces and the home owners and police are hopeful that someone will recognize the men and turn them in.

The couple had originally bought the security camera as a fun way to watch their puppies during the day. They never expected for their home to be broken into and vandalized, but they are glad they had the cameras to record evidence of the crime. The two puppies can’t give evidence or an account of the break in to police, but luckily the cameras captured clear images to be used as evidence. The home owners have a new appreciation for home security cameras and understand their importance for added security, not just entertainment.

Security Cameras in the Hills

The Hollywood Hills are notoriously known as the place to live if you are a celebrity or have a lot of money. The homes are fabulous and worth millions of dollars and the views of California are amazing. Not only are the homes expensive, but the decorations of the homes are also valuable. Because of the prestige of the Hollywood Hills neighborhood, it can also be a hot spot for thieves looking to make some money by stealing. A lot of homeowners in this neighborhood have security devices to protect their homes.

Recently, two robbers were hitting the area trying to break into different homes. They worked in the middle of the day when they knew people would be at work or out enjoying the California sunshine. However, one celebrity took the initiative of installing home security cameras on her property. Lindsay Lohan’s house was almost broken into but luckily the images of the thieves were caught on her security camera, and they weren’t able to break into her house to steal anything. The Los Angeles Police Department released the video footage of the two men trying to break in. They even have recorded video footage of the type of car they were driving, a gray station wagon, and the activity from their attempted break in. One man stayed in the car to drive away at a moment’s notice, and the other guy used some sort of tool to try and break in through the house gate. The Los Angeles Police Department is hoping that someone will recognize the two men from the released video footage and turn them in.

Home security cameras aren’t just for the rich and famous. They can be used by everyone because they are so affordable and easy to install and use. Wireless security cameras are the easiest cameras to install because there aren’t any wires that have to be connected to a home monitoring system. They also have the feature to be set up to the internet, so that you can view the footage from a computer while you are away at work or just away from home. If Lindsay Lohan didn’t have a home security camera, the images of the men may have never been recorded and released to the public. She was lucky that their attempted break in was unsuccessful, but now they men are likely to be caught because of the clear images from the camera. Their chances of robbing another home have decreased since the likelihood of their arrest is high. Security cameras provide protection for your home and they also help the police to capture criminals.

Police Monitoring Home Security Cameras

In Palo Alto, Ca, police are offering residents what may seem to be the most ideal level of home security. The Palo Alto police department is allowing home owners with security cameras to link their monitors to the department’s internet monitoring system. The police officers would have a virtual response to an alarm, robbery, break in, or violent incident instead of waiting for a phone call from the resident. What makes this so unique is that while a home owner is away on work or vacation; their house can be monitored by a police officer 24 hours a day and seven days a week. This is great for people who can’t view their security camera image recordings while at work, or while away on vacation on a remote island or location without internet access. Also, a home owner can’t always be monitoring their camera, but a police station could. This would alleviate the amount of stress for a homeowner who was worried about the safety of their house and loved ones.

There will not be a separate officer on duty to view home security cameras. The video footage would be monitored alongside the public cameras set up around town. In addition, the home owner would have to purchase some type of home alarm system because they won’t monitor the footage unless an alarm has gone off. The police department offered this service as a result from the public pleading for adding security. Some residents are concerned about their privacy being invaded. However, this is an opt-in program. If you have a home security camera, you don’t have to be a part of the police department’s system. If you choose to have the extra security provided from the police, there is a fee to join their internet monitoring system. Besides having already purchased a camera, there is a sign up fee and an annual fee.

A lot of residents in this area already own security cameras. It is an affluent area with homes valued at or around $4 million. Home break in alarms go off regularly, and as much as 15 times a day for the area. The police department is offering the service to home owners, but they are strongly encouraging the school district to sign up for the monitoring service. The high school is frequently being vandalized. The school district has expressed concerns of their students’ privacy.

If a home owner decides they want the extra security from the police they will have to consider some posing questions first. Will they be willing to give up some of their privacy? Is the extra cost in their budget and do they feel it’s worth the price? Do they trust that only the police department will view the security footage?

Car Accidents Caught on Surveillance

A hit and run car accident occurred in Florida last week. A black truck ran a red light and slammed into a car with three passengers. Some walked away with cuts and bruises, but another passenger in the car was left at the scene in critical condition. No one knows what happened to the person driving the truck because he fled from the scene. Other cars drove by the accident and did not render any aid. You may be wondering how Florida police know all of these details if nobody stopped to give an account of the accident. This horrible hit and run car accident was caught and recorded on a security camera at the corner gas station.

The security camera captured the entire accident. Unfortunately, the way the camera was angled did not provide a picture of the truck’s license plate. Police do know, however, from the video surveillance tape the make, model, and color of the truck. The video has been shown on the news nationwide in hopes of catching the driver and prosecuting him. Florida police are hoping that someone watching the news that saw the video tape will come forward and offer information. The chances of catching the driver in this hit and run accident are higher than most because of the security camera that captured and recorded the footage.

In a different event, a man was injured after being hit by a driver who also fled from the scene. This accident happened in a neighborhood and, a family’s home security camera caught the hit and run. A man walking down the street was hit by a car. His leg was broken from the impact of the car hitting him. He was very lucky though because he only suffered a broken leg and lived through the accident. In this case, police were also lucky to have clear evidence from the family’s security camera.

These are other examples of how great security cameras are in recording evidence. Unfortunately, these examples are tragic but police are hopeful the tapes will help in catching the hit and run driver and provide enough justice for the man who was hit by a car. Security cameras provide clear pictures and can make a huge difference in whether or not someone is prosecuted after committing a crime. They are more reliable than an eye witness accounts especially in the case of a hit and run accident because someone might not know the make or model of the vehicles involved. It can also be hard to remember specific details in an event.

Security Cameras in Schools

School districts throughout the country are updating their standards and policies for safety. It is becoming the norm for districts to install security cameras at all levels of their campuses; elementary, middle, and high school. The cameras are used as an extra means of security and monitoring the campus. School districts are cracking down on bullying, theft, violence, vandalizing, and school shootings. Not only do the security cameras act as a deterrent against students committing crimes, but they also record evidence in the event that a crime was committed.

Last year in Louisiana, St. Tammany Parish School Board, planned to have security cameras as a part of their budget. The school district voted on whether or not to have the cameras installed on their school’s campuses. The vote was unanimous, and both school officials and parents were enthusiastic about the district taking a step to help improve and deter school violence. Each campus had anywhere from five to 25 security cameras installed throughout the elementary, secondary, and high schools. Some principals even used private school funds, separate from the district budget, to purchase more cameras for their campus.

Recently, there was an incident at one of the schools in the St. Tammany Parish School District. At Fontainebleau High School, there was a fight that erupted in the school’s hallway. Two girls were shoving and pushing each other after one of the girls came at the other girl with a curling iron. A crowd of bystanders began to cheer on the fighting girls and created quite a scene in the hallway. While other students were encouraging the violence, some stepped in to try to stop the fight. The principal was able to view the videotape the security camera had recorded and was able to make a decision on who started the pushing and shoving, who cheered on the violence, and who the heroic students were who tried to stop the fight. Not only are bad students caught on camera, but the school can also reward good students who exemplify good behavior.

Cameras in schools make staff, faculty, students, and parents feel safer while class is in session. Having the security cameras also allow school officials to make quick, concise, and authoritative decisions when dealing with troublemakers. Before, if an incident such as bullying or theft occurred on a school campus, it would take days to investigate what had happened and who was involved. School violence will become less frequent with the use of security cameras.

Family installs security camera when suspicious of cleaners

A parent can’t help feeling helpless when their children are sick. What would you do if your children were getting sick every day? How would that make you feel? One woman took matters into her own hands after herself, husband, and two children were repeatedly getting sick with stomach problems. She had employees, such as cleaning people, throughout her home for a year and started to wonder if her cleaning lady was making their family sick. Upon mother’s intuition she had home security cameras installed throughout their home. What she found on the camera’s recordings were shocking.

The cleaner hadn’t been following sanitary cleaning procedures as laid out in the Health and Safety in Employment Act (1992). The cleaner was using the children’s bath towels as cleaning materials, and would wipe down toilets, counters and bath tubs. After cleaning with the bath towels, the cleaner would neatly hang up the towels as if they had never been used. The children would then be contaminated with cleaning supplies and germs from the towels, and suffered vomiting and diarrhea. The family sent the videotape to the Labor Department which in turn released the tape to the regional public health service. A letter was sent to the owner of the cleaning company reminding him of his duties and responsibilities of the Health and Safety Act.

On a different occasion, another family had also installed home security cameras after they were suspicious of their cleaners. Valuables had started to disappear from their home after they employed a cleaning company. The security cameras caught the cleaners stealing from them. They even took money from the mom’s purse and the father’s wallet. The family gave the tape to the police department so they could press charges against the cleaning company. Upon further observation of the tapes, the police found that the cleaners were also using bath towels to clean. The family was horrified.

It is a good idea to install some type of security camera in your home if you employ a company to clean your house or even watch your children. A wireless security camera is a great choice because it can be easy to hide, easy to install because there are no wires, and they are portable. For example, on days the cleaners come to your home you could put the security camera inside the bathrooms or the kitchen. On days you have a nanny watching your children you could move the security camera to the children’s bedrooms or the living room. You can never be too cautious when you employ a company to have help in your home.

Who uses security cameras?

Having home security is a necessity for you and your loved one’s safety. The advantages of owning a security camera outweigh any possible threats or danger to your home. Home security cameras are easy to use and are accessible to anyone and everyone. A wireless security camera is the easiest to install because there aren’t any wires that need to be connected or run through your home to the receiver, and their portability makes them easy to transfer and set up in different locations. Because of their easy instillation, low prices, portability, and the many advantages for safety; a wireless security camera can be used by anyone. They can be used by grandparents, young families, schools, restaurants, locations throughout the city, and apartment complexes.

A 94 year old woman installed a home security camera after she was robbed. She had it installed so that she could see who was at her front door on her home television set. The men who robbed her claimed to be employees of a home service company and were offering their services. The men came inside her home to write down the name and number of the company and stole money out of her purse. This shocking story was first covered in the Derry Journal. If she had the camera previously installed, she could have seen that the men didn’t have any type of uniform or badges on. Also, images from a home security camera could have provided the police evidence of who to arrest.

Due to the rise in crime and school violence, unfortunately, more and more schools are using security cameras throughout the campus. The school security cameras are installed to catch bullying, vandalizing, and violence. They are used in addition to having security guards and teachers monitoring the hallways. It is an extra means for protection, and is not used as the only protective precaution. Schools are also targeted for robbery because of the large number of computers and televisions throughout a campus. Having the security cameras deters criminals from breaking into a school.

In addition to homeowners and schools using security cameras, they are also frequently seen in restaurants. They are used in restaurants for a number of reasons, but most importantly to deter employees and patrons from stealing. Food, silverware, linens, supplies, and decorations go missing from restaurants, and all can be expensive to replace. A security camera is like having an extra set of eyes for the managers and owners of a restaurant. It is also a safety precaution for restaurants in the event of a guest getting hurt. The security cameras can provide evidence of foul play or an accident in case charges are brought against them.

As you can see, security cameras are very useful and are easy to use. The low cost of a security camera make them accessible to a lot of different people and businesses.

Home Security History

Taking a look back in time, the need to protect one’s home has been around for centuries. It is instinctual to protect your home and your loved ones. Home security has evolved over time with new technology and innovations. We have come a long way from medieval times when home security consisted of guards, moats, and flaming bow and arrows. What was once a luxury and an expensive notion for kings and wealthy home owners, home security has become affordable and obtainable for everyone. We can all be kings of our own castles.

During the 1980s, companies began to introduce the home alarm system. The alarm system consists of door sensors and loud, alarming sirens to ward off unwanted houseguests. The home alarm system could only be purchased through a provider and worked as a two-way system. The alarm company would notify the police if the alarm wasn’t turned off, and the service had to be purchased as an ongoing monthly service. As time went on and technology progressed, home security became more of a hands-on approach.

More recently, as in the 2000s, homeowners could now purchase and install their own video surveillance video security. Home security cameras became more readily available for homeowners and not just business owners. After purchasing a security camera, the homeowner could then view the images on a television, computer, or other type of receiver. The need for a monthly service or “watchdog” wasn’t needed.

Video surveillance has been around since the 1950s, but was only used by police to view areas with high crime rates. During the 1960s and 1970s, businesses started to install their own security devices. This type of security became quite popular during the 1970s after videocassettes were created because the security cameras could now record images. The general population, not just police and big business owners, could start to see the advantages of video surveillance because it provided undeniable evidence in the event of a robbery, home invasion, or accident. Video surveillance started to appear in more public places such as ATMs, sporting events, restaurants, parking lots, and other similar locations.

Since the 1990s, security cameras have improved with smaller sizes, clearer images, and easier ways to record. Home security cameras can now be purchased with night view, infrared, and even wireless security cameras are available. Home security cameras have become popular for working parents to purchase because the security cameras can be hidden though out the house to watch nannies taking care of their children. Nanny cams are installed in teddy bears and other hidden places throughout the home. With the use of wireless security cameras, the children’s parents could view the recorded images from a cell phone or office computer.

Home security has become more affordable, obtainable, and easy to use.

Security Cameras Made Famous in Hollywood

What do action, adventure, drama, suspense, and security cameras all have in common? They can make a Hollywood movie go from one thumb up to two thumbs up in the ratings. Not only do they provide protection and security to a home, but they make a Hollywood movie great! Two movies that you should definitely see, if you haven’t already, are Enemy of the State and Eagle Eye.

Enemy of the State was released in 2008 and, starred actor Will Smith. The opening scenes of the movie reveal a murder of Congressman, Phillip Hammerson. He was murdered by politician Thomas Reynolds after he declined to pass a new satellite video surveillance program. Unfortunately for Reynolds, the murder was caught on tape. The national security agency (NSA) found out about the tape and was after the man who had it. Will Smith’s character, Robert Clayton Dean, was at the wrong place at the wrong time and became the unfortunate owner of the tape without even knowing it. The guy who had originally had the tape slipped it into Dean’s pocket and was killed shortly thereafter. The rest of the movie is about Dean getting his life back on track after losing his wife and job all as a result of having the tape. Dean met a man who could help him; a surveillance expert who was previously a government operative. The NSA chased Dean and watched him vehemently through security cameras. The wireless security cameras play a huge role in this film, and without their use the spy film wouldn’t have had the same effect. It is a run, chase, and catch film all centered on a tape from an innocent man’s camera.

Recently, in 2008, Eagle Eye was released starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan. Two strangers, Jerry Shaw and Rachel Holloman, were forced together in a mysterious situation after a phone call from a woman they had never met. The two are thrown into life threatening situations, and the woman threatens to ruin their lives and kill their loved ones if they don’t carry out certain tasks. Using wireless security cameras and other new technologies, their actions and lives are recorded, controlled, and tracked. To discover who the woman is and why they were picked out, the two strangers have to come together and overcome the mysterious situation. Like Enemy of the State, this movie wouldn’t have had the same effect without the use of wireless security cameras. They were being watched so closely and thoroughly, even being monitored in convenient stores and street allies. Their every move wouldn’t have been seen unless there were security cameras in the movie.

Cost Effective Protection

You can’t put a price on having security for you and your loved ones. Or can you? What is the price you would be willing to pay to provide added security to your home? For those that feel personal protection is necessary, such as movie stars or prominent public figures, having a personal bodyguard can cost up to $125 an hour. That will cost around $3,000 for a single day of protection; $90,000 a month; and $1,080,000 a year. While most of us don’t live our lives in the spotlight or need that type of protection, resorting to a more traditional security device is substantial.

Home alarm systems offer some security. They inform you when there is a break in to your home and the provider calls the police to your house when the system hasn’t been deactivated by the owner. Having an alarm system includes an alarm panel, a motion detector, window sensors, and a sign. However, owning a home alarm system is also costly and doesn’t have any type of image recording. Alarm systems on your home include a one-time installation fee as well as monthly service fees. Keep in mind the one time installation fee is for every time the alarm is installed, so moving into a new house will cost you if you want to keep the alarm system. The cost of owning an alarm system can be anywhere from $35 to $40 a month. That translates to $10 to $15 a day and up to $450 a year. Why pay more when you could be paying less?

Having a home security device offers more protection and is by far less expensive than a personal bodyguard or home alarm system. Looking at the cost of wireless security cameras, they can range from $50 to $300 depending on the type of security camera purchased. There isn’t a monthly fee when using a home security camera. The only additional fee accompanied with the purchase is making the choice to also purchase a transmitter and receiver. This is also a one-time purchase. When you look at the breakdown of the cost of a wireless security camera, the savings are astronomical. If you choose to purchase a $50 camera, the cost per day over a year would amount to $0.13 a day. And remember this is only for one year because the purchase doesn’t include any monthly fees or activation fees. If for example, the most expensive wireless security camera is $300, the cost per day over a year would be $0.82.

The savings of owning a wireless security camera in comparison to owning a home alarm system will save you anywhere from $9.87 to $9.18 a day for a year. In addition to saving money, the security provided by a home security camera is incomparable to a home alarm system. Having a wireless security camera will provide clear images to the police in the event of a home invasion or robbery. Having these images makes a difference when catching a criminal because it is hard evidence that can’t be denied.

Why Go Wireless?

Owning a home security camera is cost effective and offers a lot of security to a home. You can never be too cautious when protecting your home or your loved ones. Owning a home security camera is a one-time investment that will last you a lifetime unlike home alarm systems that have monthly fees. In addition to owning the wireless security camera, you will also need to purchase transmitter and receiver to receive the signal. It is a three component operation. Security cameras have clear pictures, they deter criminals from vandalizing property and committing crimes, and most importantly they offer added protection and a better sense of security to a home owner.

There are different types of home security cameras that are available to be purchased and installed in and around your home such as dummy cameras, infrared cameras, or traditional security cameras. Owning a home security camera has many advantages but the camera that is the most beneficial for a home owner is the wireless security camera.

The most advantageous aspect of the wireless security camera is that they are easy to be installed. They don’t have cables that need to be connected or wired to. Because they don’t have cables connected to a home or computer, they are portable. You can move the camera where you want it and when you need it moved. For example, if you are at work during the day you can set the camera to view the inside of your home, and then when you get home for the evening you can set it to view the outside of your home. Also, if you decide to purchase a new home or want to relocate, you can take the wireless security camera with you. Having a wireless security camera is a one time, life-long purchase as mentioned before.

Wireless security cameras images’ can be viewed from your cell phone, laptop, or home computer. This is great because you can see the live feed of the camera protecting your home or wherever location the camera is set. Wireless security cameras provide clear images and have a further range than most other home security cameras. A wireless camera can transmit up to 700 feet. More specifically, a wireless security camera can view up to a 6,000 square foot home.

A wireless security camera is cost effective, takes up minimal amounts of space, and offers protection in addition to having clear concise images.

Advantages of Home Security Cameras

Crime, robbery, and violence are everyday struggles that the world faces. Unfortunately, the perpetrators who steal, hurt, and vandalize can be lurking in our backyards and businesses. There are many advantages of owning a home security camera that can deter a criminal from targeting your home. This is also true for business owners. Owning video surveillance devices such as a wireless security camera in your business can prevent employees from stealing, thieves from robbing, and the business owner can see what happens while they are out of the office, restaurant, or store. A home owner can view their children being taken care of with nanny cams or monitor that their home is safe and criminal free while they are away at work or while on vacation. The advantages of owning a home security camera far outweigh the stress you may endure from the fear of being robbed, vandalized, or physically hurt by a criminal.

If you are targeted by a criminal, the security camera will provide clear and accurate images to detail the event. These images aid the police in finding the perpetrators which in turn fight to get criminals off the streets and into jail, so they can’t target another innocent home or business owner. One cannot argue with the detailed and accurate evidence documenting if a crime occurred.

While having a home security camera offers images of a possible crime to occur, they also deter the crime from ever happening. Studies have proven that someone is less likely to commit a crime if they know they are being watched. This is a great deterrence for business owners because their employees will not steal or vandalize company property for fear of being caught and terminated.

By having crime deterred, there is a sense of security that is offered from installing a wireless security camera at your home or business. Places such as shopping malls, stores, restaurants, homes, schools, and daycares use video surveillance. Parents can view a nanny watching their children, school teachers can feel safe knowing the school is being watched, store owners feel secure knowing that if someone steals from their store there will be evidence to catch the criminals. We shouldn’t have to live in fear knowing that our homes or businesses can be broken into at any time. Cameras deter criminals and having a sense of security can make life less stressful.

There are different types of security cameras available to best fit the needs of the purchaser. Each camera has its own advantages. For example, there are wireless security cameras, dummy cameras, and infrared cameras just to name a few. Any camera that you purchase will prove to be advantageous to your life as a home owner, business owner, and/or employee.

Wireless Security Camera Capture Home Invasion

Recently in Jacksonville, Florida a prominent couple who owned a chiropractic practice and who advertised their practice on billboards, which included their pictures, were targeted for a home invasion by three men. Fortunately for this family, they had the foresight to install wireless security cameras outside of their home. These men knew their names and faces due to the outdoor billboard advertising of the family business. Presumptively, the criminals were able to ascertain the address of this family due to the public information available on the billboards.

The three men waited for the mother to arrive home after work. They watched her unlock the front door and enter the home, after which they followed her inside. All of this was captured by the wireless security cameras. Inside of the home, the three year old daughter and her grandmother were waiting for mom to come home.
The three criminals attacked the mother and held the three year old daughter at gunpoint. The family was extorted and asked for money. After the men received money and valuables, they left. The mother was left bleeding; the child and grandmother were left traumatized.

This home invasion was captured on wireless security cameras and was featured on the Dr. Phil show in February of 2009. The experience was life changing and traumatic for the entire family, however on a more positive note, the mother’s stress went away quickly. The intruders were captured within days. The fast arrest and prosecution was due to the wireless security cameras installed at the home. It provided the family and the police with clear images of the three intruders. If the video hadn’t recorded the men’s faces, they may have never been identified and arrested.

Calls poured in immediately to crime stoppers after the images were shown on the local news. The home security camera had been installed above the front door outside their home. The traumatized family didn’t have to rely on their memory to describe what the perpetrators looked like; the home security camera videotaped who the men were.

Video surveillance is very affordable and the benefits of the level of security are immeasurable. A quality security camera system ranges in cost from $59.00 to $300.00. There are many different types of cameras that are available to be purchased. There are: wireless security cameras, weatherproof infrared security cameras, hidden cameras, dome cameras, pan tilt zoom cameras, fake security cameras, and traditional CCTV security cameras just to name a few. The large variety of home security cameras allows you to choose the camera that will be the most beneficial for the security you are seeking. All of these provide clear, concise, accurate images.

While the initial investment might seem costly to a family struggling in a tough economy, the peace of mind offered to you and your loved ones, and the onetime cost of the security cameras is nominal. Unlike traditional alarm systems, there are no recurring fees for the monitoring of the security cameras. They are installed and hooked up to a digital video recorder (DVR), which can later be used to identify any incidents which may occur. Also, there are warranties for the cameras and you will be able to use the home security cameras for a long time. Ordering the cameras is easy. They can be ordered by phone, mail, online, and by fax.

Hidden Security on the Job

Small and large business owners alike have a responsibility to themselves and their employees to maintain a safe workplace. In order to ensure efficiency and profitability while encouraging workers to feel protected and at ease on the job, businesses have long utilized plainly-visible security cameras to capture video and still-image, providing a dated, easily discernable “what’s goin’ on” of their offices and storefront. Cameras possess a dual purpose as many of today’s employers are looking further than sales in efforts to achieve profit. A large percentage of firms are finding it necessary to amp up efforts in loss prevention in order to protect their elusive bottom line. It’s not that employers are becoming more distrustful or desire to spy on their employees, it is only that research has shown that workplace thefts are on the increase, and protecting company property is not devious or spiteful, but smart.

Hidden cameras are a relatively new phenomena in the workplace due to the rise in employee thefts, so legal issues concerning these hidden camera installations are very few and vague at best. Laws that are in place involve “invasion of privacy” and extend to areas where employees and patrons have an expectation of being alone and unobserved. Areas such as locker rooms, restrooms, and changing areas, fall into the category of “expected privacy”. In cases where a workers’ union is involved, it is always best to talk things over with local union representatives, assuring them that privacy will not be violated. Hidden surveillance is a necessary evil to protect against employee offense and extremely important in order to keep the workplace safe and profitable. Employers are advised to retain an attorney to counsel them on the laws that are present in their state before moving ahead with the installation process. In most cases, employers are protected under law as long as local law enforcement guidelines are adhered to, but it is better to be safe than sorry, as always.

While cameras that are mounted within plain view do much to deter illegal or lascivious activities of employees or clients, hidden cameras are able to capture how individuals behave when they are not aware they are being observed. Security firm outfitters like Security-Cams.com are allowing employers to take the safety and profitability of their workplace into their own hands, offering a multitude of security cameras and accessories to keep every workplace secure in more ways than one.

New Required Security Cameras

The surveillance age as arrived. More people are installing home security cameras, businesses rely on them for security and quality control, and we are even seeing them in day cares and pet care facilities. And why not? Because of the advances in technology and affordability, almost anyone can enjoy the use of a few extra eyes. In fact, in a recent article from USA today, Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago proposed the addition of new surveillance cameras for the outsides of government buildings, train platforms, as well as intersections. Though other communities have already taken some similar steps across the nation, for the city of Chicago, this is a huge leap toward safety and security.

This ambitious mayor plans to require all bars that stay open until 4 am to install cameras to identify those who come and go and the same would go for any business that stays open longer than 12 hours in a day. Though this would be an excellent way to cut down on after hours crime and locate criminals at large, some civil liberties advocates are troubled by the prospect. Some believe it is time to have a public dialogue on the matter and send this kind of decision to the voting booths to determine how much public surveillance is really appropriate. The same thing is under consideration by the Baltimore County Council in Maryland where they have already ordered the installation of cameras in large malls and parking areas. This decision was quickly pushed through despite of many objections by local business groups, which was largely influenced by a murder that occurred in a parking garage last year. The argument is that railings, sprinkler systems, and help buttons are already required, why not surveillance?

Police forces are constantly trying to improve the safety of public areas by patrolling, but the fact remains that police officers cannot be in every place at once. Security cameras lend themselves perfectly to crime prevention and suspect apprehension by providing an unbiased recording or even real time display of people and actions. Many businesses that operate after normal business hours already believe in the value of security cameras or already have them installed, and they will have no trouble seeing the justification behind requiring video surveillance. As the technology increases, there are even cameras that use audio frequencies to alert police automatically if a gunshot is fired. Advances like this will make it easy for authorities to respond quickly to violent incidents, not only for the apprehension of suspects but possibly saving of lives.

Ultimately, the public will need to find the balance of security versus privacy. It seems such a waste not to utilize the technology we have to cut down on crime, but we must also be careful to consider the rights to privacy people living in the United States hold so dear. Chicago has proposed one of the most aggressive approaches to the implementation of surveillance, but it is just one of hundreds of cities believing that the implementation of more surveillance will only result in safer and better functioning communities.

Home Security Cameras with Night Vision

It is obvious that business or home security cameras are most useful at night. The darkness enables intruders to easily break into homes and business without being noticed, and a security camera without any night vision capability will be of little use during these hours unless the surveillance area is extremely well lit. However, by utilizing some type of night vision technology, intruders will have a very difficult time accomplishing their goal without being recorded and identified. The basic installation and monitoring is exactly the same as most other security cameras, but with night vision cameras you can always keep a watchful eye, day or night.

There are two most common types of technology used to record images in a dark environment. Both methods make use of the infrared spectrum, but utilize it in different ways. Infrared is basically a form of electromagnetic radiation, which has a longer wavelength than the light that is visible to the human eye. The color red has the longest wavelength of any visible color, and infrared has a wavelength that is even longer. Because infrared has a variable wavelength of 750 nm to 1mm, there is large spectrum of infrared light that can be used in different ways.

One way infrared is used is known as image enhancement. This night vision technology gathers small amounts of infrared light from the lower portion of the spectrum and amplifies it by many times. This makes the infrared light visible, thus revealing any objects or people. This is the same night vision method used on most night vision goggles, and it appears on the monitor to be a black and white type of image with a greenish tent.

Thermal imaging is another method of utilizing infrared light. Instead of amplifying the lower part of the infrared spectrum, it actually monitors the upper portion of the spectrum, which reveals something entirely different. The upper part of the infrared spectrum is produced by the emission of heat. Warmer things actually give off these higher spectrum infrared rays, and when amplified, they can reveal the human body by the heat it is putting out. The image produced from thermal imaging has a larger color spectrum, but the colors are associated with the amount of heat rather than the actual colors of the person or object. The warmer areas are recorded as “warmer colors” or yellows and reds, while colder areas show purples and blues. For this reason, sometimes the images can be more difficult to interpret.

Both of these technologies have been used for surveillance and home security cameras very successfully, providing security footage in the darkest of environments. If you have a dark area that poses some security concern consider installing a camera with night vision capabilities.

Another Use for Infrared Cameras

Infrared cameras have been used for decades now, first by the military and shortly after by the private sector. These cameras record thermographic images from the radiation emitted by living things, so it is obvious how useful infrared security cameras might when there is not enough light to detect images. However, scientists and inventors alike are constantly looking for more uses of infrared. One of the most recent developments is for the increasingly common condition known as sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea describes a condition where an individual has trouble sleeping due to interruptions in their breathing patterns. For diagnosis a network of electrodes are attached to the head, face, chest, and abdomen of a patient. These electrodes then record the patients breathing patterns while the patient must try to sleep inside a medical lab. As you might imagine, this is a somewhat difficult way to diagnose the condition, which is why scientist have explored the option of using infrared cameras as a new solution.

If the patient already has trouble sleeping, as many as twenty electrodes attached all over their body will probably not help the situation, thus effecting the calculations of the experiment. For this reason, Dr. Jayasimha Murthy of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, along with his colleagues, developed a new imaging system to record a patient’s breathing patterns with the use of a remote, infrared camera. Like most thermographic infrared cameras this one monitors the changes in heat signals released when the patient inhales and exhales. The point of this new innovation is to remove as many sensors that actually contact the body as possible, thus making it more comfortable for the patient and making the diagnostic process more accurate.

At this phase of development, infrared cameras used for this purpose have been measured against common electrode systems, and the results have been very similar. Murthy and colleagues have studied the data recorded from the infrared camera, at six to eight feet from the patient’s head, with 13 men and women, and the camera detected breathing problems at the same rate as the two most conventional detection methods.

Though for now, these cameras can only replace a few contact electrodes, scientists are testing this tool for other measurements as well, and hopefully contact sensors will be unnecessary in the future. Infrared is no longer for just the military, law enforcement, or business and home security cameras. It continues to prove useful in medicine, research, and development.

Basic Home Security Camera Installation

The huge surge of security cameras and surveillance for the private home is largely due to the affordability of camera technology, but along with this has come a new simplicity in camera installation. What was once a fairly complicated process is now simple enough for most anyone to accomplish. Not only is the technology affordable, people are saving a bundle on installation costs. By shopping online, consumers are able to purchase the equipment they need, have it directly shipped to their door, and complete their own installation of a new home security camera system. Installing your own surveillance system is easy when following these guidelines.

The more important part of the process is deciding what kind of system you need. How many cameras do you need, do you need audio, color video, or a wireless system? The answers to these questions obviously depend on the primary use of this security camera system as well as your personal preferences. Also consider if cameras will be located outside as well as inside. After deciding on the best system and having it shipped to your door, you are ready to install.

The first step of actual installation is determining the exact area for surveillance. With the area defined, it is then important to position the camera at the right distance in order to cover that area. Once you have chosen the position, hold the camera up to that position and mark where screws will be driven through the mounting bracket that comes with the camera. On some surfaces you may need to pre-drill holes for the screws to drive. Then simply screw the mounting plate to the preferred mounting surface and make certain it is secured tightly. Wood is the easiest surface to permeate and will also provide great stability.

Installing “wired” systems is somewhat more complicated than wireless systems because you must then run the wire to the monitoring device. This can be done a number of ways. If you are still in the construction phase of a home it is easy to run these wires through walls to hide them. However, if installing a system into an existing structure, you can use various mounting tacks or adhesives to secure the line in corners or along trim. If the line is painted over, it is quite difficult to notice. The great thing about wireless cameras is that this installation step is unnecessary. Some wireless units send a signal to a specific monitoring system, while others connect wirelessly to a device that is accessed through the Internet and can actually be monitored from any Internet connection. When using a wireless home security camera you must make sure that there is no signal interference between the camera transmitter and the monitoring or recording device. Avoid installing these systems with TV’s, microwaves, stereo systems, and other electronics that may interfere.

Other than following specific setup instructions that come with your specific security device, that is all there is to installing your own home security camera system. The simplicity has changed the industry forever, making home security a possibility for almost anyone. If you are looking to improve your home security or just keep an eye on the kids or pets, take a look at different surveillance systems available to the general public. It can really give you and your family a new peace of mind, and it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Home Security Cameras: Not Just a Fad

The popularity of security cameras for surveillance in the private home has steadily increased over the past decades, exploding in the last ten years. Homeowners are looking to protect their homes and families while also having the option of keeping an eye on kids or animals that might be home alone. Some people are even investing for the purposes of smooth driveway entrances or front door intercoms. Though it has been popular for some time amongst executives and politicians, the majority of security camera owners today are purchasing and installing their own cameras for $100 to $500, and even putting in entire systems in the low thousands. They are then using their home computers or televisions for monitoring. But whatever the budget or purpose, home security cameras will continue increasing in popularity as the technology becomes more affordable and the usability more simple. Video surveillance has been a fascination of humans for more than fifty years, and these technological advancements will only continue to enhance that interest.

Video monitoring has long been a useful resource for various purposes. CCTV, or “Closed Circuit Television” describes any video signal that is transmitted to a specific set of monitors or monitoring system. The fist CCTV was actually used to observe the launch of V2 rockets in Germany in 1942. Since then, video surveillance has flourished in many industries, but for obvious reasons the security industry was especially interested. Banking institutions were among the first to implement security cameras for both evidentiary and theft preventative purposes. Their effectiveness has been astounding, reducing the number of bank robberies two one tenth of their previous numbers almost over night. As a result, security cameras are now used in office buildings, jails and prisons, schools, museums, retail shops, traffic lights, and now, commonly in homes.

Further development has improved the effectiveness of security cameras by making them much smaller than they once were. Mini security cameras can be hidden from view so that individuals are unaware of their surveillance. Though this has obvious benefits for retail situations, they are also very popular in home settings. This is an easy way to keep a watch on teenagers, see who is at the door, and identify a burglar or vandal with a close up view.

This is only the beginning of home security cameras. There are too many benefits of surveillance for it to go out of style. In fact, as the technology continues to increase, home security cameras will probably become standard for every home, installed upon construction. Even now, it is inexpensive and simple enough for almost anyone to purchase their own camera system and throw up a few more eyes around the house.

The 24 hour Watch Dog

In an age of necessary security, many people are turning to security cameras for their home protection. Though Fido might be a pretty good watch dog, he does have his limitations including the need to sleep. Home security cameras offer 24 hour surveillance to those that are looking for better ways to protect their loved ones. Not only do security cameras make it more likely for thieves or vandals to leave sooner or possibly avoid your home all together, they also serve as an excellent deterrent. Though they may have a different effect than Fido’s characteristic bark, they are more likely to prevent a break in, and in the event of a break in you will have recorded evidence of their every move. Just like picking out the right dog for you, there are a plethora of security camera options. Take care to choose the best surveillance for your living situation.

Some homeowners prefer to mount decoy cameras, or fake cameras. Though these do not give the owner the capability of recording or monitoring what is going on at his or her home, they do fulfill the deterrent purpose of home security cameras, possibly replacing that old “Beware of Dog” sign. A thief has no way of knowing if a camera is actually operational because of elaborate security camera replicas for sale that can fool anyone. The idea of a security camera is very unsettling to a criminal as they consider that their movements are monitored and realize they will probably be confronted. This is the last thing that most thieves want to experience.

Though fake cameras are a more affordable theft deterrent, real security cameras provide actual footage at various angles around and/or inside the home. Cameras can be purchased with a variety of options such as color views or black and white. A color view might be more helpful in determining the identity of a robber while black and white views provide the contrast necessary to detect movement more sharply. Choosing a wireless or hardwired system and choosing resolutions are a few of many other options to consider, but beyond settling on the right type of security camera system, accurate placement is just as important. All entry points of the home should be in the view of a camera, and it should be positioned in such a way that the face of anyone entering your home is easily identified. This is useful for both security purposes as well as social ones. It is good to be able to see the face of someone knocking at your door. It is like a version of caller ID for house visitors. When placing security cameras in a home’s interior, hallways are excellent choices. An intruder will quite possibly utilize the hallway space more than once during their visit. Of course, any room that contains valuables is also a likely candidate for a security camera.

With home security cameras, you can have 24 hour surveillance protecting the things you value most, from people to possessions. There is no need to live in fear or to train your dog to dislike visitors when you have another constant look out. Take a look at some security cameras for your home today. You will be amazed at how inexpensive such effective security has become.

Home Security Cameras

Every eight seconds in the residential United States, a home burglary takes place, and the simple fact remains that every home is a possible target. For this reason, home security cameras are increasing in popularity across the country. Security cameras are a great way for the general public to protect their homes, businesses, and loved ones. Of course everyone has seen the movies depicting the grossly rich with their video surveillance, which is why most people do not realize how affordable it has become. Like almost every area of the technology industry, cameras with surveillance capabilities have fallen in price dramatically, making home surveillance real and viable option.

Home security cameras provide insight into suspicious activity around the perimeter of your home. Not only does video surveillance act as a common burglar deterrent, it can help you keep an eye on children, see who’s at the door, or identify criminals who have actually committed a crime against your household. To choose the best security system for your particular household, it is important to take a moment to determine your surveillance needs in order to choose the best system functions and features.

The number and placement of cameras are the most important factors to consider. The number of cameras you purchase will directly impact which recording device you will need to support them. Be sure that you have carefully considered your perimeter and determined the best places for camera installation. Careful planning will save you plenty of time and money later on. Once you have determined camera arrangement, you might them proceed by choosing the cameras themselves. When it comes to home security, the price of particular surveillance systems should not be the deciding factor. Of course everyone has a budget, but if you determine that you can only afford very low quality equipment, you may be better off purchasing some decoys, or fake cameras. If you are planning to go through the trouble and spend the money on home security cameras, then you should not be afraid to purchase high quality equipment.

If you only need two or three cameras, there are many simple systems available that allow you to view captured footage through your TV and even record through your home VCR. More sophisticated systems send feeds through the Internet so they can be viewed form any computer. The important part of this decision is making sure you choose a system that will actually be used. If you are the type of person that will grow lazy and probably not use a VCR system, then it might be worth the extra money to watch your camera feeds online. Again, it depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish by purchasing a home security camera system.

Not only do security cameras bring some peace of mind to any home, they can also increase the value of your home. Because the interest in home surveillance is increasing rapidly, many homebuyers are looking for security camera systems in prospective homes, and a quality system that is easy to use is a valuable commodity. Home security cameras help to deter burglary, keep an eye on the kids, create a sense of security, and even add a little to value of your home. Why would anyone not consider installing home surveillance?
